VP of Marketing, AVVO

Avvo, Inc. (www.avvo.com) is looking for a world-class Vice President of Marketing that will lead both our marketing efforts and existing business units.
This is a pivotal position for Avvo, at a pivotal time in our history. Avvo grew from concept to market leader in the legal industry in three short years. We did this by building revolutionary products and a robust, engaged community. We have expanded to medical, launching 800,000 doctor ratings, a health Q&A forum and health guides on November 1, 2010.
Our charge is to grow our lead in legal while becoming the leader in medical. Part of this is continuing to build innovative products; but an equally important part is marketing, managing and growing those jewels already in the Avvo crown.
Position
This is a role for a proven leader with demonstrated success in both marketing and business unit management. The VP of Marketing will report directly to the CEO and have these primary responsibilities:
• Marketing Strategy and Execution: You will set the course for Avvo’s marketing strategy based on your qualitative experience and quantitative analysis. You will be responsible for identifying viable marketing channels and execution therein. You must have deep experience managing different inbound and outbound marketing programs and making them effective.
• Business Unit Management: You will own the P&L for both our legal and medical business units, and accordingly be goaled for their performance. Your team will be the analytical backbone of the company, measuring every marketing dollar spent in these verticals and how it returns. You will provide business intelligence for the Product and Sales teams.
• Organizational Leadership: You will inherit a strong marketing team and need to manage and grow it. As one of Avvo’s three Vice Presidents, you will also be a leader in corporate strategy and cross-team collaboration.
Requirements
• 10+ years in consumer marketing, with heavy experience in Internet marketing including SEO, SEM, syndication, email, social media and display advertising. The superior candidate will also have experience in traditional marketing including direct mail, PR, promotions, thought leadership, events and branding.
• 5+ years in managing line(s) of business, including P&L ownership.
• Strong analytical skills and a talent for translating quantitative data into strategy and execution.
• Enjoys viral marketing more than brand marketing.
