Interviewing Gina Peckman, Co-Founder of Seattle Executive Recruiting

Date June 24, 2008

How did you earn your first dollar?
I was the “basket girl” at our local pool. I was too young at the time to be a lifeguard, so I took any job just for the opportunity to hang out with the lifeguard I had a crush on! Needless to say, I became a lifeguard, a career I kept though college. To this day, it remains the favorite job I’ve ever had! Sun, water, cute boys, what more could I ask for?

Best recruiting moment
Every time a candidate receives the news that they have the job they wanted is the best moment! It is why I love recruiting. Also, having a client call and thank us for a job well done and say they are so pleased with the process and partnering with Dynamo. That makes it all worthwhile!

Why a blog?
Instead of Chris and me boring each other with our same stories, we thought we would share! No, seriously, after twenty years in business, and with the advent of the blog, we now have a forum to share business solutions and discuss topics that are more closely aligned with our passions. We see it as a place where working women (and men) can share ideas on balancing all the demands of our worlds. We’ll talk about recruiting, business issues, and networking. It’s an outlet for business people to gather information and assist others. Our hope and dream for this site is that it will become very little about Chris and me, and everything about the friends that visit and participate on the blog. We’re just here to get the ball rolling.

Profession other than your own you would like to try
I am an aspiring interior designer! Call if you need ANY help with your remodel. I’m full of ideas!

Favorite Movie
Considering I own the vast majority of DVDs ever produced, it is hard for me to choose just one. My Chick Flick Pick: “The Notebook” (‘Fess up guys, you like it!) “Something’s Gotta Give” gives me hope! “What about Bob”: the funniest movie for a Sunday afternoon!

Guilty Pleasure
Facials, at my (youthful!) age…considered a mandatory requirement!

Where you hail from
Cornhusker-land! But I am a Washingtonian now, since I have lived in Washington longer than Nebraska. I’ll always be a cornhusker at heart!

Favorite place to dine
Anywhere I am dining at the moment! Love to try new foods and restaurants, especially in far away places. Anything spicy suits my personality.

Who you would like to meet?
Hmmm…there are many people who I admire and would like to spend time with. The person depends on the mood I’m in. It would be so fun to hang out with Robin Williams and laugh with for a couple of weeks! I’d also like to have a conversation with Diane Sawyer. She knows everyone!

Superpower wanted
What every super mom wants: to read minds! Then again, that could be scary!

Passionate Cause
Teaching my 19 and 21 year-old kids–who just moved into their first apartments at college–how to cook! HA!

Books on your nightstand
I have to admit, if I have any free time I am outdoors snowmobiling, diving, and swimming! I need to read more!

Favorite Vacation Spot
Belize tops the list: white sandy beaches and golf carts instead of cars for transportation! But as with my favorite foods, my favorite spot is anywhere I happen to be vacationing at the time.

Your favorite type of client
My favorite is a client with whom I have a “marriage”; we are partners, and can set goals together. We can disagree, laugh together, strategize about issues, and in the end be friends and business colleagues. Life is too short to not partner with clients who we can enjoy and feel passionate about their success and happiness!

Favorite Quote
“Caring is the ultimate competitive advantage!”
